Creative Arts -NBLC
Curriculum Vision
Creative arts has been introduced at the Learning Centre as a foundation subject. This is intended to bring a wide range of benefits, both practical and emotional. These benefits can support the holistic development of students with diverse needs. Creative arts can provide alternative forms of expression through drawing, painting, music, dance, and drama. This allows students to communicate their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in ways that are appropriate and accessible to them. In turn, this can build self esteem and confidence.
Lessons at New Bridge Learning Centre
All students have Creative Arts lessons throughout the week. The subject offers collaborative projects, encouraging teamwork, social interaction, and building friendships. In a supportive and non-judgmental setting, students can explore their emotions, increase their self-awareness, and develop empathy for others, which is important for social development.
Students have the opportunity to explore different Art media such as drawing, painting and printing. Researching fashion, dancing and playing musical instruments. Which may help to improve fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as well as encouraging engagement, interaction and independent choices.
Creative Arts is delivered through a theme based approach and starts by looking at the Arts from the 20th Century. The students analyse fashion, art and dance, focusing on The Bauhaus art movement and swing/ Lindy hop dance. Students create a design sheet and learn about the music and dance moves of the eras throughout the year.
All students have the opportunity to develop a final art piece and to take part in a dance/ show at the end of the Autumn term. Throughout the year, students will be looking at the arts from rest of the 20th century, focusing on different eras and genres.
