Curriculum Vision
At New Bridge Learning Centre we are passionate about helping students to gain meaningful skills that will give them the ability to be part of the wider community. We know that each student is an individual and we work with them to create sessions that are fun, engaging and purposeful.
At the Learning Centre we build upon each students individual learning path. We seek to understand their strengths and areas for development and provide opportunities to continue their learning journey. We continue learning in all the key areas of English including reading, writing and communication giving students the skills they need for a meaningful future. Our nurturing and calm environment ensures that learners feel safe to try new things.
Our staff are trained to deliver high quality teaching and learning opportunities. We also consider ourselves learners and we ensure that our knowledge and understanding of subjects we teach is relevant and that our ability to deliver learning is engaging.
At the Learning Centre we know that reading is a key skill for everyone to have. We provide high quality experiences to develop individual student’s reading levels and ensure they have a good understanding of text and symbols around them. We know that writing is much more than putting pen to paper, and we create imaginative sessions where students can explore their own creativity in expressing themselves through text or pictures. Communication is key for all our students and the ability to express your own thoughts, needs and opinions is a vital skills for our students.
At our core, we believe that the students at the Learning Centre are lifelong learners who have so much to offer the world in unique ways.
English lessons at the Learning Centre
English is taught thematically over 4 sessions per week. Some students work on the small step targets from their EHCP. Other students work towards Entry Level examinations. Either way, individuals are working on what’s important and meaningful to their own personal futures.
English lessons are taught using a structured and consistent framework that is adapted to the differing levels of learners. This pedalogical approach allows the learners to know what is expected of them at the start, during and at the end of the lesson and supports them to build on prior learning in every lesson.
