Lumenus Update…

It’s the first week back after the new year and Lumenus KS5 joined with Lumenus KS4, as they both embarked on a journey. Can you guess where Lumenus have been today? We’ll give you some clue’s.. The Beatles, The Liver Birds, The River Mersey….

Yes, you’ve guessed correct. Lumenus have been to LIVERPOOL! Liverpool is a city steeped in history, culture and entertainment. From the vibrant music scene to the bustling docks, there is something for everyone to enjoy. One of the most iconic and beloved aspects of Liverpool is, of course, The Beatles. This legendary band hails from the city, and their influence can still be seen and felt throughout Liverpool. From the famous Cavern Club, where they first made a name for themselves, to the Beatles Story museum which takes visitors on a journey through their rise to fame, the Beatles are an integral part of Liverpool’s identity. As students walk around the city, they can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia as they pass by the places where the Beatles once roamed.

Students also had the opportunity to visit Liverpool’s Merseyside Maritime Museum. This museum is dedicated to showcasing the rich maritime history of Liverpool and its impact on the city’s development. As the students entered the museum, they were immediately struck by the impressive building, which is a part of the famous Albert Dock complex. The museum’s location on the waterfront added a sense of authenticity to the experience, as the students could see the actual docks and ships that were once bustling with activity.

Lumenus also stopped off at Pizza Express for some well-earned lunch!

And no trip to Liverpool is complete without a visit to the docks. This bustling area is not only a historic landmark, but it is also a hub of activity.. Students can take a stroll along the docks and soak in the stunning views of the River Mersey, while imagining the ships and cargo that once passed through these bustling docks. And as they look up, they will see the iconic Liver Birds perched atop the Liver Building, watching over the city and its visitors. These mythical creatures have become a symbol of Liverpool and are a must-see for anyone visiting the city. As students make their way back from their walk around Liverpool, they can’t help but feel a deep appreciation for this city and all it has to offer. The Beatles, the docks, and the Liver Birds are just a few of the many things that make Liverpool a truly special place. Students will surely leave with fond memories and a newfound love for this vibrant and captivating city.

BTG Destiny Update 

This week, the Destiny students from BTG attended their first session at the Sharp Project. This is a huge 200,000 sq ft complex, located just outside Manchester city centre. It is used for all types of media including digital media content, photography, digital content production and TV and film production.  

The students had their induction and tour around the premises, this gave them a huge insight into the types of work that takes place at the centre, as well as an opportunity to discover what small up-and-coming businesses operate from there. Furthermore, which ‘big-name’ companies use the premises to help aid sales and what content is needed to run and operate the business.  

The students were also introduced to the Sharp Futures team who will be supporting and teaching them new skills and helping them to develop their own skills and knowledge. They talked about the use of different types of multimedia software and how this has been used in the production of ITV, the BBC and also award-winning films such as Marvel and Star Wars. The day was finished with an individual career pathways quiz and a discussion that was aimed at what skills, career goals, personal and professional aims the students had and where they needed to improve their skills. Each student was very honest and open and gave the staff valuable, honest feedback so that they can benefit from the opportunity.

When going to the sharp project, I found it very eye opening as I got to look at stuff I have always wanted and dreamed to look at and now that is happening. I can’t wait show what I can do with my digital skills as it is an amazing opportunity and challenge going to the sharp project.

HSC Update… 

This week, the HSC group have started the new year off with a strong and motivated attitude towards learning.  

We began the week by recapping some of the topics that we covered last term. We looked at the topic ‘Life Stages’ which focused on understanding the different stages of human development and the factors that can influence it. We learned about the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development from infancy to late adulthood. It was fascinating to see how each stage has its own unique characteristics and challenges. We also discussed the role of genetics, environment, and individual choices in shaping our development. It was eye-opening to learn about how our experiences, relationships, and environment can have a significant impact on our growth and well-being.

Furthermore, we have also learned about the different types of healthcare systems around the world and how they differ in terms of access, cost, and quality of care. We gained a better understanding of the challenges and disparities that exist in healthcare and the importance of advocating for equal access to healthcare for all individuals, regardless of their socio-economic status.

In our social care component, we focused on the concept of person-centered care and its importance in promoting dignity, independence, and respect for individuals. We learned about the key principles of person-centred care and how it differs from traditional care methods. We also discussed the importance of effective communication and building trusting relationships with individuals in our care.

Overall, it has been a very enlightening and enriching week in health and social care. We have gained a deeper understanding of the complexities of human development, mental health, and healthcare systems. We have also been reminded of the importance of promoting equality, respect, and person-centred care in our practice. As we move forward in our studies, we are excited to continue learning and growing in our knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in the health and social care field. 

HSC Team

English Update…

We have had some fantastic news over in English recently. Some of our students entered a young writers’ poetry competition last term and Macauley won! His emotive poem “Mortal” will be published in an anthology in February. 

Well done Macauley – we couldn’t be prouder of you! 

The students have settled back in well this week, and we have been impressed by how much they have remembered from last half-term. We are now working on our writing skills so keep your eyes peeled for more superb pieces of work.
