British Red Cross- First Aid Workshop
This week, students from Future Finders, Pre-Interns, and both Digital BTG groups took part in an engaging and informative First Aid workshop delivered by the British Red Cross. The session was expertly led by Amy Meadows, who brought a perfect mix of professionalism, encouragement, and just the right touch of humour to help students feel at ease while learning some truly vital skills.
The workshops covered a range of essential first aid topics, starting with a lively 'True or False' quiz. Students tested their knowledge on everything from low blood sugar and choking to seizures, allergic reactions, and the all-important question of who to help first in an emergency. It’s safe to say a few myths were well and truly busted!
Students also explored the reasons people might hesitate to offer help in a first aid situation. Amy encouraged open discussions about personal safety and showed how we can still offer support without putting ourselves at risk. From cautious learners to confident helpers, everyone found their voice.
Things got a bit more hands-on (and sideways!) as students learned how to put someone into the recovery position. Laughter filled the room as peers practised with care, ensuring everyone understood what to do if someone is unresponsive but breathing.
When the scenario became more serious — someone unresponsive and not breathing — students stepped up, learning how to perform chest compressions. With guidance and practice, the group began to understand how powerful and important this skill can be.
One particularly inventive part of the workshop involved using everyday items as stand-ins for first aid equipment. Who knew that a scarf or a plastic bag could be so versatile in an emergency? This was a brilliant way to show that anyone, anywhere, can make a difference with the tools they have at hand.
We’re incredibly grateful to Amy Meadows and the British Red Cross for delivering such an inspiring and memorable session. The best news? They’ll be returning on 2nd July for another round of first aid workshops. We’re looking forward to more learning, more laughter, and more life-saving skills!

Celebrating Unity, Talent, and Creativity: NBC Cultural Awareness Day 2025
New Bridge College recently came alive in a vibrant celebration of diversity, creativity, and community spirit during our eagerly anticipated Cultural Awareness Day. The event was a spectacular showcase of the dedication and imagination of both students and staff, bringing our college together in a day filled with inspiration, fun, and friendly competition.
At the heart of the celebration was this year’s creative theme: "The 7 Wonders of the World". Each pathway poured their passion into crafting stunning representations of these global marvels. From intricately detailed sculptures to multimedia presentations, the artistic flair on display was nothing short of breathtaking. Every corridor told a story, every display sparked curiosity, and every student contribution shone with pride and purpose.
But Culture Day wasn't just about the arts—it was a full sensory experience. Our Activ8 group took the lead in introducing us to sports from around the world, turning the playing field into a global arena. The energy was electric as students participated in hockey, lacrosse, handball, cricket, and baseball, with a healthy dose of competition adding an exciting edge. It was a joy to see so many students trying something new, supporting their teams, and embracing the sportsmanship that defines NBC. The HSC team created some amazing posters and canvases, truly amazing work.
No cultural celebration is complete without a feast, and thanks to the culinary talents of Miss Shirley, Miss Begum, and Miss Sarwar, we were treated to a delicious journey around the world. Their carefully curated menu was packed with flavours from different cultures, adding yet another rich layer to the day’s festivities.
Of course, a bit of playful competition added an extra spark. The Digital Pathway w a nail-bitingly close contest. While Miss Hughes and the BTG group might jokingly dispute the results (we’re still waiting on that official appeal!), they were the epitome of grace and good sportsmanship—true credits to NBC College.
Culture Day 2025 was a celebration of everything that makes NBC special: diversity, creativity, teamwork, and a shared sense of pride. A massive thank you to every student, teacher, and staff member who made it possible. Here's to many more events that bring us together and continue to make our college community thrive!
