Great Start for BTG Students

A special shoutout to my BTG students, Jenson and Kaia who have now started their new placements.

Such exciting steps!

Starting a new role can be both challenging and rewarding, and I have no doubt you’ll both bring the same energy and determination to your placements as you do around our college.

Girls Group Update

This week, in Girls Group, we designed lots of Neurodiverse bags which will be one of a kind.

We will be sharing the final bags with Dr Shirley Woods-Gallagher in order to auction for a worthy cause.

We welcomed new students this week, which was lovely.

😀

Enjoy the lovely photos of the girls designing them.

Wear It Pink! –Afternoon Tea for Breast Cancer Awareness at New Bridge College

The Health and Social Care group at New Bridge College hosted an incredible Wear It Pink Afternoon Tea in support of Breast Cancer Awareness — and what an unforgettable afternoon it was!

From the moment you walked into the HSC room, the atmosphere was filled with laughter, pink decorations, and a strong sense of community spirit. The students worked tirelessly to create an inspiring event that celebrated hope, strength, and togetherness while raising awareness for such an important cause.

The afternoon began with a heartfelt presentation created by Kayleigh, who shared powerful messages about why raising awareness for breast cancer is so vital. Her words reminded everyone of the importance of early detection and supporting those affected.

After the presentation, it was time to relax and enjoy a delicious Afternoon Tea — complete with a stunning spread of pink-themed treats lovingly prepared by the team. Cupcakes, biscuits, and sweet delights filled the tables, adding a vibrant splash of pink everywhere you looked!

For those who wished, there was also the opportunity for a bra fitting, carried out sensitively by female staff members — a thoughtful addition to the day that linked perfectly to the theme of self-care and awareness.

Guests were also invited to contribute to our beautiful Tree of Hope, writing heartfelt messages of love, remembrance, and encouragement for those touched by breast cancer. It was a touching display that captured the compassion and empathy of our college community.

Of course, no celebration is complete without a few selfies! Students and staff proudly posed in pink, capturing joyful moments that will be remembered long after the event.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that, together, we raised an amazing £150 for Breast Cancer Now! Every penny will go towards supporting life-changing research and care for those affected.

A massive thank you goes out to our wonderful event co-ordinators Kyra, Nikita, Kayleigh, Maia, and Katie for their creativity, dedication, and teamwork in bringing the event to life. Special thanks also to Maria, Rizwana, and Lorielle for their ongoing support — this truly was a team effort, and we couldn’t have done it without you all.

What a beautiful afternoon filled with purpose, pink, and positivity.

Lumenus Update

Well, it has been a busy, intense but exciting half-term. It has been wonderful to use the new studios at Oldham Theatre Workshop. The students have been busy with their BTEC Level 1, 2 and 3 accreditation work, taking part in research activities and practical workshops.

In music, the students have been looking at how they consume music and the technology used in the process. They have been creating a chronological timeline of musical technology from the music box in 1770 and Eddison’s Phonograph in 1887 to the iPod and use of smart phones.

The highlight this week was an SFX make-up workshop delivered by our very own Rebecca Fearnley. As Halloween is fast approaching the students wanted to create gory injuries. In the workshop they used skin putty, liquid latex, stage blood, bruise make-up and an array of other items such as staples and nails. The results were very impressive as you can see in the photos and some of the students went home on public transport sporting these fake injuries :0)

Everyone is ready for a well-deserved break!!

Happy half-term to all
