BTG Update

Over the past two weeks, I have had the pleasure of watching four of my BTG students grow, learn, and take meaningful steps toward their future. I’m incredibly proud of you all for successfully completed the training sessions—your dedication, hard work, and commitment has truly paid off!

It’s been inspiring to see each of you stay focused and continue pushing yourselves forward. Your progress is not just a reflection of your abilities, but also of your willingness to keep learning and improving over the next academic year. Well done!

A special shoutout to three of my BTG students, Yunus Robyn and Alfie who have al now started their new placements—this is such an exciting step! Starting a new role can be both challenging and rewarding, and I have no doubt you’ll all bring the same energy and determination to your placements as you do around our college.

Keep up the fantastic work and remember—this is just the beginning. I’m excited to see where this journey takes each of you! TEAM BTG!

This Week in Girls Group!

We had a relaxing afternoon completing some mindfulness positivity colouring to display in the pastoral hub. We also talked about our week

In our group session today, we looked at our self-care wheel, self-care is an essential survival skill. It refers to things we practice or engage in regularly to reduce stress and maintain or enhance our physical or mental wellbeing.

We asked each other things we do for ourselves that make us feel better some suggestions were hobbies and interests like baking, colouring, making bracelets, talking to our friends and staff. Other suggestions included getting plenty of sleep, eating a balanced diet that is nutritious, gratitude and setting personal boundaries.

Next week we will be looking at Stress and how it affects us as a person We look forward to sharing our ideas with you, until next week...

Health and Social Care Update

Our Health and Social Care pathway students have had a busy and rewarding time recently, getting involved in community activities that both enriched their learning and allowed them to make a difference.

This week, the group attended the Health and Wellbeing Fair at Oldham Leisure Centre, where they had the chance to explore a range of stalls, speak to professionals, and discover valuable information about local services and initiatives. The event gave students a deeper understanding of the support available within the community and helped them see how health and social care links into everyday life.

Alongside this, our students were proud to support the Macmillan Coffee Morning. They played a key role in setting up the event, welcoming guests, and serving refreshments. It was a brilliant opportunity to develop teamwork and communication skills, all while raising awareness and supporting such a meaningful cause.

The HSC pathway students came away from both events with new knowledge, practical experience, and a real sense of achievement. We are so proud of their enthusiasm and commitment in representing the college.

Lumenus Update

Lumenus students have been working creatively in their Pathway sessions this term. Our practical work has been taking place in the fantastic new studio spaces at the Oldham Theatre Workshop, located in the beautifully restored Old Library. We’re incredibly lucky to have access to such inspiring facilities.

This term, we’re delving into the world of Physical Theatre, drawing inspiration from the work of Frantic Assembly and Steven Berkoff. Lumenus have been developing a devised piece that incorporates techniques from both practitioners, and you may get a glimpse of their work in our upcoming Christmas production.

In addition to this, on Wednesdays we're collaborating on an exciting project titled ‘Flip It’, led by Craig Harris (Oldham Theatre Workshop) and Dayna Brennick (Oldham Youth Services). This project will culminate in a spring event aimed at connecting young people with employers and organisations to explore supported internship opportunities.

As part of Flip It, Lumenus students are participating in workshops focused on Forum Theatre and youth-led problem solving. These sessions are preparing them to take a leading role in planning and delivering an applied theatre event that places youth voice at its heart.

Macmillan Coffee Morning...

Today was our Macmillan Coffee morning and in preparation for the event our Pre-Interns made delicious truffles in their Learning for life lesson. This involved working in pairs to weigh and measure their ingredients as well as choosing what flavours and toppings to use. Some of the students did not like rolling the truffles due to the texture but they enjoyed getting messy and worked well together in their pairs

The coffee morning was a success, and it was lovely to welcome our parents and carers to our gathering. It was impressive to see our students offer and then make our visitors their hot drinks and a massive thank you to all our students and families who took part and made their own cakes and biscuits to share with everyone at the college.
