A Day in the Life of Blake
Hello everyone, my name is Blake, and I am a student on the Bridging the Gap pathway, and I am in Year 14. I wake up at 06:30am in the morning. First thing I do in the morning is have a hot bath. Then I put on my Manchester Metropolitan University uniform on then after chilling at my home for a bit I set off from my house to head to the tram stop at 07:55am.
Once I get to the tram stop, I scan my travel pass to the touch in machine then I get in my tram. I get to college between 08:10-08:15am then I wait behind college for 30-35 minutes before I get inside college at 08:45.
Once I get in college. I set off to placement with Kyle C and my job coach Cara by getting in the tram with them from Oldham Central to St Peter’s Square. The tram gets to St Peter’s Square at 09:40am then I go in Tesco to get my dinner which is a meal deal. I like to get a Southern Fried Chicken wrap along with Sea Salted Hula Hoops and a bottle of Diet Coke. After I get my dinner, I walk all the way down Oxford Road to the Business School in the Manchester Metropolitan University.
Once I get to Business School at 10am, I hang my coat and bag in Tracy’s office then Tracy will let me know who I am with for 2 hours before my dinner break. I am normally with Naz but if she is off then I work with Enut but if Enut is off or is in a meeting then I work with Noel.
When I am with Naz, she gives me a pair of dark blue gloves to keep my hands clean when doing some work. I mop the floors to make them dry, clean the sinks and toilets, check the soaps and the toilet rolls. I do this in the Business School from Floor 1 to 7 and I do the toilets in Stairway 5 and 4. This is me and Naz’s routine: Floor 1 Stairway 5, Floor 1 Stairway 4, Floor 2 Stairway 5, Floor 2 Stairway 4, Floor 3 Stairway 4, Floor 3 Stairway 5, Floor 4 Stairway 5, Floor 4 Stairway 4, Floor 5 Stairway 4, Floor 5 Stairway 5, Floor 6 Stairway 5, Floor 6 Stairway 4, Floor 7 Stairway 4 and Floor 7 Stairway 5.
When I work with Enut, we go to the John Dalton building in the Manchester Metropolitan University. Then, I fill in new bin bags onto the bins from Floor 4 to the Ground Floor. When we do not do the bins, we go to the storage room to sweep up and soak the floor by mopping. Either that or we move the wheelie bins to an appropriate place.
When I work with Noel, I do several types of work such as delivering parcels to different rooms in the Business School and Sandra Burslem, move chairs and tables out and in off a room under the stairs and load off some items from the loading bay.
I finish working with Naz, Enut or Noel at 12:00pm then that is when my dinner break starts. I eat my dinner near the Costa in the Business School while I look at football photos and videos on Facebook as football makes me even more hungry for no reason.
I have my dinner until 12:30pm then after I put my coat and bag back in Tracy’s office I am always with Noel on the afternoons. Before we start to work, Noel has his dinner while I read the newspaper. Well, I read it fast, and I skip to the football part as football is the only thing that interests me in the daily newspapers. After that, me and Noel either deliver parcels to different rooms in the Business School, Sandra Burslem, John Dalton, and the Cavendish Building, move chairs and tables about or load things into the truck in the loading bay. I finish between 1:55-2pm then I get the tram back home. On Thursdays, I do Employability lessons with Shamina then I set off with Kyle C and Cara between 10:15-10:30am then I arrive at the Business School in the Manchester Metropolitan University between 11:15-11:30am. I either work with Naz, Enut or Noel until 12:30pm then have my dinner break until 1pm then I work with Noel until 1:55-2pm. Thank you for listening to my day!

Celebrating Eid at New Bridge College!
As the weekend approaches, so does a special celebration—Eid! This joyous occasion, celebrated by millions around the world, marks the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, reflection, and community. For many, Eid is a time to come together with loved ones, share delicious food, and give thanks. At New Bridge College, we're excited to honor this meaningful tradition and invite everyone to join in the celebration.
To mark the occasion, New Bridge Parliament will be handing out delicious Eid treats to students and staff. These sweet surprises symbolize the joy and generosity that Eid represents. A huge shout-out to Rizwana, who generously purchased these treats on behalf of the Student Council. If you see her around, be sure to say thank you—her kindness helps make this celebration even more special!
When you visit the reception area, don't miss our lovely Eid display. It's the perfect spot to pause, admire, and learn more about the festival's traditions and meaning.
We also want to take a moment to recognize the incredible teamwork that made these celebrations possible. A special thank you to Nic, Shirley, Maria, and the Health & Social Care students for their dedication and contributions. From organizing treats to creating the display, your hard work and enthusiasm have brought the spirit of Eid to life on our campus.
Whether you're celebrating Eid with family and friends or simply enjoying a well-earned break, we hope this weekend brings you happiness and rest. This celebration is not only a time to honour tradition but also an opportunity to embrace the values of compassion, generosity, and community that Eid represents.
Warm wishes to all, and Eid Mubarak!

HSC - Exploring the Future: Career Paths
HSC students have been busy working on their A2 unit, focusing on developing a Personal Progression Plan. As part of this, they recently took on an exciting and creative task called 'Career Path.' This activity challenged students to map out their career journeys, illustrating the steps they plan to take from college to their future career destinations.
The 'Career Path' task encouraged students to think critically about their goals and aspirations while allowing their creativity to shine. From detailed timelines to imaginative visual representations, students showcased their ambitions in unique and inspiring ways.
Throughout the project, students demonstrated dedication and hard work, producing thoughtful and well-designed career paths. This task not only helped them visualize their futures but also equipped them with valuable planning skills to support their professional journeys.
We are incredibly proud of the effort and creativity our HSC students have shown and look forward to seeing how these career paths unfold in the years to come!
