Great Start for BTG Student
A special shoutout to my BTG student, Josh, who has now started his new placement.
This is such an exciting step! Starting a new role can be both challenging and rewarding, and I have no doubt you’ll bring the same energy and determination to your placement as you do around our college.

Girls Group Update
We have completed another wonderful week in Girls' Group in our calm space.
Olivia has started to design a new bag for our Executive Director of Leadership and Governance Dr Woods-Gallagher and this will be added to the group's collection of bags. The girls were amazed how famous our neurodiverse bag has become, and it was lovely to share the photo with them of Dr Woods-Gallagher with Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham holding the bag.
Some of the girls wanted to complete some mindfulness colouring worksheets on positive affirmations. At the end of today's session, we discussed our stresses and what fills our buckets and how we can empty them to support our mental well-being. The girls left feeling relaxed and ready for the weekend.

Mathematics Update
It’s been a busy couple of weeks for our students in their math lessons. They started the new term completing their BKSB initial assessments as well as completing paper diagnostic assessments. We have also started to cover the four operations and work has included, place value, rounding to the nearest ten’s and 100’s and extending our knowledge and methodology for solving multiplication and subtraction number problems.
Our students have adapted to their new timetables and teaching staff, starting the new term strong. I would like to give special mention to Kayden, Daygon, Reece S, Kaia, and Nayem for their positive attitudes towards their Maths. Examples have included going above and beyond either by helping their peers with sums or challenging themselves by completing extra or harder work. Fantastic work everyone, well done! I would like to finish this blog with a quote from Kayden “Maths has been ruddy brilliant!”
In Martin’s groups there has been a similar high level of engagement and participation, with several students performing ‘micro-teach’ sessions, to their peers, to demonstrate their understanding. Baselining tasks remain ongoing and the students have now covered ‘place value’ and the four operations of number. These students will be studying the order of operations and multiplication by 10,100, 100 etc, next.
Much of our work is based on utilising the correct techniques to ensure that all the available marks are gained, by reapplying simple taught routines, which enable the students to approach problems with confidence.

This week, it has been great to see a number of committed students preparing for next week’s Student Parliament elections.
We have...

Andrew who will be the voice for the voiceless.
Ben who will support student clubs and creativity, aswell as nine other promises
Ellie who wants students’ voices to be heard
Hadian who promises to try and get students more comfortable classroom chairs and new charges
We look forward to seeing next week’s campaign speeches!
