Dawn's Blog 26.9.25
It's been an eventful week at the Learning Centre for some of our students and me personally.
I was contacted a few months ago by Sarah Jones about an exciting venture she has been working on for around 3 years and how our students could benefit.
Sarah is the sister of one of our students, Zacharia, who very sadly passed away 3 years ago.
Sarah had taken Zach climbing with her when he was younger and he loved it.
There were, however, limited opportunities for Zach to access in the community. Sarah decided that she wanted to provide a national climbing program which was fully accessible to people of all abilities and needs.
Sarah also provided a great opportunity for Learning Centre students to be able to regularly access a fully inclusive climbing program.
This work culminated in the launch this week of the National Indoor Climbing award schemes.
During the afternoon, a group of Learning Centre students were invited to attend a climbing session, as part of the launch event at Summit Up in Oldham.
The students embraced every challenge thanks to the amazing team there who ensured students overcame fears and some even went to the top of the wall. They also loved the swing!
I’m immensely proud of all our students who at times overcame fears. Also, a huge well done to Sarah, Thanks for inviting me to the evening Launch event. What a great legacy for Zach.

Back at the Learning Centre staff and students have been busy as always, please do check out this week's blogs from Mrs Begum's IB3 class, love the video guys, Mrs Keane’s class who have been Covering personal Hygiene in their living skills lessons, and well-done Mahdi who has now taken on the responsibility for coordinating the content on our internal TVs.
