Sometimes I have weeks where I’m astounded by our students and this week has definitely been one of them.
On Tuesday several of our students went to The Greater Manchester Inclusion Football Tournament. Our team consisted of Delphin, Jamie, Ionut, Erdal, Taha, Mo and Laraiba. Miss Burston wrote: Well done to all of them for their performances and perseverance.
On Wednesday there were two events for our student communication champions. Firstly Molly & Chelsea joined the New Bridge Invitational meetings with Senior leads from across the New Bridge Sites, Governors and members of the executive team. We were presenting the work the whole group have been doing to drive sign-a-long at the Learning Centre.
They also spoke about their recent audit of the staff team. It was a great example of how students can lead the way in driving change and developments. Well done ladies, I was hugely impressed and want to say a huge thank you for your input and attendance.
At Lunchtime on Wednesday, 8 of the student communication advocates attended the Sign-a-long conference at Oldham Athletic football ground. They even got up to share their work with the conference. I’m so very proud of you all, massive well done to Shannon, Imogen, Natalia, Amy, Antonia, Catherine, Molly and Chelsea.
It has been a joy reflecting on the achievements of our students this week, so very proud of you all. Thanks also to the amazing staff team who have enabled our students to shine!
Have a great weekend
Dawn
Signalong at OAFC
On the 06/03/24 the Learning Centre Signalong group attended a conference at Oldham Athletic football ground.
We arrived at around 11:30 am and were shown to the conference room. We took our seats and waited for our turn to present the work we had been doing with Alison.
Everyone was feeling nervous. Shannon said she felt extremely nervous as there were a lot of people watching and she felt under pressure. Molly said she felt excited as it was somewhere she had never visited before.
All the students did a fantastic job. They delivered the presentation with confidence and everyone gave them a loud round of applause at the end.
We then had a quick tour of the ground. Imogen was disappointed that there were no football players to talk to.
Finally, we had lunch which was a mixture of sandwiches and chips. The food was enjoyed by all. Each student received a goody bag as a way of thanks for their hard work.
Unfortunately, on the way out, Chelsea, Catherine, Imogen, Antonia and Miss Knox all got stuck in the lift. Fortunately the fire brigade was not called and we escaped safely.
The group enjoyed the trip and asked if we could go back for a tour of the whole ground in the future.
Football
Our team of 7 students went to The Greater Manchester Inclusion Football Tournament and managed very respectable scores.
They played three matches up against much bigger opponents.
Our first game was against our very own New Bridge College Sports Pathway team who are a very experienced. We held our own to finish 2- 0 down.
Our next game against another team ended 1-0. We saved our best until last with a winning score of 4-0 against Bridge College. Our team consisted of Delphin, Jamie, Ionut, Erdal, Taha, Mo and Laraiba. Well done to all of them for their performances and perseverance.
