Learning Centre Blog (24.1.25)
I always get a real buzz from reading the blogs from staff teams, it reminds me to sometimes just stop and take note of the progress our students are making.
One of the themes for this term is around looking after our environment, I shared within last weeks blog about our amazing Eco warriors! The Learning Centre has registered to take part in the RSPB’s Big Schools Birdwatch. Many classes are taking part including Miss Millwards class who have shared some wonderful pictures of students involved in the birdwatch survey.
They have also been busy making decorations for our Chinese New Year celebrations next Wednesday making dragons and lanterns, I can’t wait to share pictures next week of the decorated dinning hall.
EBase 4
Students in Ebase 4 have had a great start back to the new year, we would like to share some of the activities we have taken part in so far this term, 3 of the topics we have participated in are, the upcoming Chinese New Year, The National Birdwatch and a special lesson focusing on , Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Ready to Learn.
We began with the Big Birdwatch where we looked at why do birds’ matter, The RSPB and why we have a Big Birdwatch. Together, we set up a birdwatching area within the classroom so the students could look through the window and identify the birds that come into our garden. As a group we looked at the different types of British garden birds how to identify them through their sound and appearance. Students helped to make pinecone bird feeders where students rolled out suet and mixed it with bird seeds, then stuck the suet onto pinecones. Students also made bird feeders from oranges; we hung them in the trees in the garden. As a class we spent time in the garden playing ‘I spy garden birds’ which helped us to count the different species of birds, we saw a range of birds such as Sparrows, Great tits and Robins.
Within our Enrichment lesson we have been learning about Chinese New Year, with this year being the year of the snake. To commemorate this the students listened to traditional Chinese instrumental music and created 3 fan-fold snakes along with masks and lanterns. We researched all about why the Chinese New Year is celebrated and how it came to be. Everyone enjoyed learning about the race of the animals as well as some interesting facts about each animal. We created multiple different lanterns to decorate the classroom with the students making the choice of material, colour and pattern to commemorate this important piece of culture.
Finally, we would like to share our lesson on the 3 Bs of the school. Following on from the design we made at the start of the year, we took a more in-depth look into the 3Bs and decided what it really meant to be safe, respectful and ready to learn. As group we learnt why it is important to behave in a proper manner in school, we looked at different scenarios and discussed what is safe, respectful and ready to learn. Students then went off and took part in a cutting and sticking activity placing different images into the correct categories showing how to Be safe, Being Respectful and Be ready to learn.
E-Base 4 have had a wonderful start to 2025 following on from last year and have enjoyed sharing our experiences again.
Thanks for listening, from all the staff and students in Ebase4.
