🏃♂️ NBC Run Club is Back!
Well... it's finally here! 🎉
After the success of last year's residential trip to Italy, we're delighted to officially launch the NBC Run Club. This week saw our first session, and students were invited to join us on a Monday lunchtime to lace up their trainers and give it a go. Thankfully, quite a few decided to put their best foot forward and accept the challenge! 👟
We gathered at the start of lunch, piled into the minibus, and headed down to Alexandra Park. The weather in town had been lovely all morning, but, in true British fashion, the moment we left the building... it started raining! ☔😂
After a quick team talk outside the Lion's Den, we discussed the goal for Week 1:
👉 Run if you can.
👉 Walk if you need to.
👉 Most importantly... Keep Moving Forward!
With that in mind, we set ourselves the challenge of tackling the main drag in front of the Lion's Den. This included a fairly decent climb uphill, followed by the reward of cruising back down again. 📈➡️📉
The aim was simple: keep moving for 20 minutes.
As the group prepared to set off, the advice from staff was clear:
"Don't start like Usain Bolt! Nobody can sprint for 20 minutes!" 😆
Mr H and Mr L kept a steady pace throughout, encouraging students every step of the way. The staff knew all too well that some runners would take off as though their lives depended on it 🏃💨, but that's all part of the Week 1 learning curve!
The effort from everyone was fantastic. Every student completed more than a mile, and most comfortably exceeded 2km for those who prefer "new money" measurements! 📏🏅
Once the timer was up, we gathered together for a quick reflection on the session. Staff highlighted that the first week, just like the first step, is always the hardest. Next week we'll focus on finding each individual's running pace and learning how to maintain it over longer periods.
We couldn't be more impressed with the students. 🙌 Their determination, positive attitudes and willingness to challenge themselves made for a brilliant first session, and everyone returned to college feeling proud of what they had achieved.
Adding to the comedy of the afternoon, as soon as we arrived back at college, the rain stopped and the sun came out! 🌞😅
Honestly, you couldn't make it up.
It was a fantastic start to the year, full of effort, encouragement and plenty of laughs along the way. Great work from everyone involved!
