New Bridge Learning Centre - 16.2.24

It really is hard to believe that we are already halfway through this academic year, I don’t know where the time goes! (I sound like my Mum!)

The majority of my time is spent writing reports, analysing reports or within meetings, talking about reports and I make a concerted effort to ensure I spend time with students at some point every day.

On Friday morning I could be found dancing & exercising in the hall with all our Interactive base students. I really couldn’t compete with energy, enthusiasm and ‘sassy moves’ displayed by the students.

This is a time of year when its clear to see how far many of our students have progressed. I was delighted to read Mrs Peacocks blog this week...

"Once again we reach the end of a half-term that has been action packed with activities and hard work. The Employability Group has been especially busy and have had opportunities to attend Work Experience placements both internally and externally.

A great favourite this term has been working in the food bank on Vulcan Street in Oldham. The students have been particularly busy in this setting and have been kept on their toes, sorting items into food bags as well as tidying up the shelves and racks.

We now have students from another class who have been accessing the external Work Experience placements and we have received rave reviews for both of these students as well as the usual praise that our own students regularly receive. Very well done Jamie and Aiden! We know you’ll continue to thrive in these settings.

Some of our students are also keen to do work around the college and regularly go on Outdoor Education sessions with some of the groups to help with them accessing areas they would otherwise struggle to access. They also go in classes with the groups as an extra pair of hands for the staff.

One of our students accesses the onsite nursery four mornings a week and is a popular member of the staff there. It has been wonderful to continue seeing her grow and thrive in an area she clearly enjoys and in which she works so hard.

Gardening around our college grounds is also proving popular with students from all four Community Living groups who are keen and eager to learn, and to spend time outside. The grounds are looking particularly good, and we can see the effect of the effort that is being put in to tending the grounds.

Have a lovely half-term break everyone and let’s hit the ground running, as we always do, when we return for the next busy and exciting half term."

Mrs Peacock

A massive well done to all the students, I’m immensely proud of you all.

I’d like to finish by saying a big thank you to the wonderful staff team at the Learning Centre. Our students would not make the progress they do without the dedication, care and support of every staff member. Thanks for enabling our students to thrive.

Have a lovely half term everyone and I look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday 27th February.

Take care
