October Half-Term Holiday Club: “People Who Help Us”

This October half-term, our holiday club embraced the theme “People Who Help Us”, and what an incredible week it turned out to be! The students enjoyed a variety of engaging activities, from creative arts and themed cooking to exciting visits from real-life heroes.

Police Visit – Lights, Sirens, and Handcuffs!

One of the highlights was the visit from our local police officers, who arrived with their riot van. The students were thrilled to explore the van, try on authentic police uniforms, and even experience what it’s like to “arrest” someone—our staff were very good sports about being handcuffed and placed in the back of the van! The flashing lights and sirens added to the excitement, making this a truly memorable experience.

Oldham Mountain Rescue – Heroes of the Hills

On Tuesday, we welcomed Oldham Mountain Rescue. Students learned about the vital work these volunteers do and got hands-on with their safety gear. They practiced rescuing friends using a real rescue stretcher and explored the Mountain Rescue ambulance, complete with sirens and lights. This interactive session gave everyone a deeper appreciation for the bravery and skill involved in mountain rescue operations.

Introducing Hunger Ball – A New Favourite!

We also trialled an exciting new game called Hunger Ball, thanks to Mr. Drake. This inflatable arena with internal goals allows students of all abilities to play a variety of ball games. The energy and laughter were contagious as everyone got involved—Hunger Ball was an instant hit and will definitely be making a return in future clubs!

Firefighting History at Rochdale Fire Museum

We ended the last day with a fascinating trip to Rochdale Fire Museum, where students explored historic fire engines and learned about the evolution of firefighting. Walking through the old fire station and seeing the equipment up close was a fantastic way to wrap up our theme of “People Who Help Us.”

Celebrating Our Destination Champions

A special mention goes to our three Destination Champions—Lewis, Charlie, and Lauren. These incredible young people are part of the New Bridge family and have progressed through school, pathways, college, and Future Finders to now hold employment within New Bridge. Their support during the holiday club was invaluable, helping our younger students feel safe, included, and ready to have fun. Well done—you are amazing role models!

A Week to Remember

From themed cooking and art projects to meeting real-life community helpers, this holiday club was packed with fun, learning, and unforgettable experiences. A huge thank you to our visitors and staff for making this week so special. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next holiday club in February which will have a Circus Theme!

Watch out for the request forms which will be sent via email when we return after Christmas.
