COMLIV1
This week COMLIV1 have been working hard and settled back in very well. We have started a new topic in our Pathway lessons.
We are looking at the environment how our food impacts this. We have looked at the different food groups as well as which fruit and veg is available in the UK throughout the different seasons. This links with our maths topic of ‘time’. We have looked at the seasons and what events happen in each.
In English we have started a new book called ‘Can You Feel The Noise?’ We have been using it to meet our Functional Skills targets. In our Speaking and Listening lesson we had a great time discussing our favourite music artist.
Miss Rowe is proud of the hard work from all of the students this week and I hope it continues through the term.

CL5
In our first week back CL5 have been focusing on topics based around Healthy living, Preparation for work and Community action as well as basketball within PE. The students have been really engaged with each of the topics and have particularly enjoyed developing their understanding how to live healthy lives.
Within the lesson students have begun to identify how to eat and stay healthy and the benefits to them. In addition to this within Preparation for work the students have been identifying their own skills and qualities, this has included what skills and qualities they may need to have their dream job.
The students came up with some great ideas as their dream jobs, these included becoming a doctor, baker, wrestler and tour guide to name a few. A great week, with lots of hard work.
Well done!
CL4KPT
Maths
This week we have been busy working on identifying big/small and heavy/light in our maths sessions. The students worked with concrete objects first, identifying their properties and sorting them into the correct category. They then completed worksheets to solidify their knowledge. Well done everyone!
Pathway
We have started our new ASDAN project this term, focusing on looking after and caring for animals. We have begun learning about different types of pets, where they live and what equipment we need to be good owners. Everyone enjoyed looking at and naming the different items needed to look after a dog.
This was a really productive and great week back after the holidays everyone, well done CL4KPT for all your hard work and positive attitudes!

COMLIV2
This week in COMLIV2 we have began to look at our topic of Healthy Living. As a class we have looked at the important features of a healthy lifestyle and we have focused on the importance of a balanced diet. We have also begun our unit of Preparation for Work in which as a class we looked at what personal qualities we have that would be beneficial in the work place. This week was the first week that we went up to Mahdlo and the class loved being in a new environment and trying their hand at basketball.
CommLiv7CPRTec
This week in CommLiv7CPRTec we continued with our class going around school offering hot drinks and refreshments to staff for Friday Well-being.
Staff really appreciate what our students do and it is lovely to get feedback “Thank you to you and your lovely class – my hot chocolate was delish! X”
Our students have been working on their communication skills and growing in their confidence.
Well done to all.
COMLIV SPORT
Hi everybody,
Welcome back and Happy New Year. I hope you all had a wonderful, exciting but most importantly relaxing Christmas break.
Community Living Sport have had a fantastic week. We have been incredibly busy and dived straight back into our learning. It is like they haven’t been away. Their attitude to learning has been brilliant, it is a pleasure to be with them on a daily basis. In Math, some of our boys have been tackling column multiplication (an incredibly difficult skill).
However, after struggling at the beginning, the perseverance the have shown this week is incredible and you can see by the pictures that they have done incredibly well.
At MAHDLO this week, we have started Basketball. The boys did lots of dribbling and passing skills, making huge improvements and having lots of fun.
As part of our new Community Living project, we have started to look at ‘Making the Most of Leisure Time’ and visited Oldham Leisure Centre. Here we looked at the range of activities the sports centre had to offer, explaining why people come here and how it makes them feel.
Have a lovely weekend!

Lumenus Update
It’s the first week back after the new year and Lumenus KS4, joined with Lumenus KS5 have been out and about. Can you guess where Lumenus have been today? We’ll give you some clue’s… The Beatles, the Liver Birds, the River Mersey…
Yes, you’ve guessed correct. Lumenus have been to LIVERPOOL! Liverpool is a city steeped in history, culture and entertainment. From the vibrant music scene to the bustling docks, there is something for everyone to enjoy. One of the most iconic and beloved aspects of Liverpool is, of course, The Beatles. This legendary band hails from the city, and their influence can still be seen and felt throughout Liverpool. From the famous Cavern Club, where they first made a name for themselves, to the Beatles Story museum which takes visitors on a journey through their rise to fame, the Beatles are an integral part of Liverpool’s identity. As pupils walked around the City, they couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia as they passed by the places where the Beatles once roamed.
Pupils also had the opportunity to visit Liverpool’s Merseyside Maritime Museum. This museum is dedicated to showcasing the rich maritime history of Liverpool and its impact on the city’s development. As the pupils entered the museum, they were immediately struck by the impressive building, which is a part of the famous Albert Dock complex. The museum’s location on the waterfront added a sense of authenticity to the experience, as the students could see the actual docks and ships that were once bustling with activity.
Lumenus also stopped off at Pizza Express for some well-earned lunch!
And no trip to Liverpool is complete without a visit to the docks. This bustling area is not only a historic landmark, but it is also a hub of activity. Pupils took a stroll along the docks and soak in the stunning views of the River Mersey, while imagining the ships and cargo that once passed through these bustling docks. And as they look up, they saw the iconic Liver Birds perched atop the Liver Building, watching over the city and its visitors. These mythical creatures have become a symbol of Liverpool and are a must-see for anyone visiting the city. As students make their way back from their walk around Liverpool, they can’t help but feel a deep appreciation for this city and all it has to offer. The Beatles, the docks, and the Liver Birds are just a few of the many things that make Liverpool a truly special place. Students will surely leave with fond memories and a newfound love for this vibrant and captivating city.
Meet Mr Darnbrough
Hello everyone!
I am Mr Darnbrough, Activ8 and PE Teacher at New Bridge Pathways. I have been asked to share a little bit about myself so here it goes…
I have always had a huge passion for PE and sport and have known since a young age that I wanted to become a PE Teacher. As a teenager, sport was the focus of my life, and I participated in physical activity almost every day. Football and Cricket were my main sports and I manged to play at a high standard in both sports. Particularly in football as I trialled at Liverpool FC at the age of 15 which led to me receiving a football scholarship at Hartpury College, living away from home at the age of 16, whilst studying a BTEC National Diploma in Sport (performance and excellence in football). This was one of the highlights of my life and with independence, hard work and resilience, I left college with having achieved three distinctions. This achievement enabled me to attend Manchester Metropolitan University to study a BA Hons in Physical Education & Sport Pedagogy degree, resulting in becoming a qualified PE Teacher.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending family time with my fiancé and little girl Rosie. We have lots of fun, and love going on days out, making as many memories as possible. We recently went swimming to a splash park at Huddersfield Leisure Centre and she was in her element. She is growing up so fast, and we try to capture as many precious moments, as a three so that we can reflect on them together later in life.
I thoroughly enjoy working at New Bridge Pathways and the students inspire me every day to better myself and put 100% into my work. Overall, I aspire to support them in achieving their individual targets in the hope that they leave school on to a better life with plenty opportunities.
