Week 2 Blog
Week 2 is completed, and the snow thankfully came and went. It was wonderful to see through our social media posts – the children enjoying playing in our outside areas. A massive thanks goes out to our premises team who ensured it was safe and accessible.
January is always a particularly long month and with it comes the bad weather and cold. This week – we were lucky enough to welcome a band called the Mercians who came and performed to our young people. The band came to talk about mental health – which is a subject that is always central to our children and staff teams.
I was lucky to be able to see our children within the performance – from our balcony in the theatre and it was fabulous to see the New Bridge students – sharing how they felt about their feelings – both in a happy and sad way. The band kicked off their set – with a Harry Styles song – and at that point the school was absolutely bouncing!
Here’s some info about the band…
“The Mercians are an upcoming Indie band they have provided a lucky few schools with a live performance, followed on with a talk on Mental Health, Discrimination / Misogyny & a Q&A for pupils. Their music is a mix of politics, emotion and raw talent. The band’s sound is reminiscent of the British indie rock revival of the early 2000s, but with a fresh and modern twist. They have already sold out the O2 Leicester on their first headline tour date, have over half a million streams on Spotify and have been number 1 in the Alt Charts. The band have had their own issues with mental health growing up so are looking forward to talking about their own experiences, spreading awareness and also talking about treating each other fairly and respecting everyone around us for our differences, whether that be our gender, race or sexuality.”
Next week we have some exciting news but that’s for my next blog…
That’s it for me this week. I’m hoping everyone stays safe in the storm.
Take care
