Welcome back
Welcome back to Summer 1, although I must say the weather is not feeling that warm and sunny at all. We hope everyone had a brilliant Easter break and enjoyed the rest, but not the rain and wind.
Our children bounced back into school on Monday with lots of smiley faces and happy to be back in school (which was just amazing...)
Our holiday club went really well and it was amazing to see the blogs and pictures of the children doing lots of fun activities, days out and even some animals joined us. Another successful club ran by Mrs Bingley and the team.
Our premises staff have also been busy ensuring the school is ready for the term ahead. Summer 1 and 2 is SUCH a busy time for us – trips out, team events, performances and of course when we look to the next steps of moving on.
We also find in this term that we have lots of visitors to school and this first week has been no exception. Our school nursing team have been in to vaccinate students – which is always a bit of an anxious time for our young people, but Amanda and the team do an exceptional job to reassure everyone and get the job done.
In addition, I walked round the school with one of our school partners. We were really fortunate to be able to pop into 7JSW and meet with Miss Shaw and Miss Childs and, more importantly, meet with the learners in the room.
The group were working on living skills, and they were building their own houses with equipment and furniture. The group were also very proud of their bees. We talk in school all the time around what our bees mean...
- Be safe.
- Be ready to learn.
- Be respectful.
In addition to watching some amazing work, we also spoke to the class and one young lady said “I’m so happy here in my class. In my other school I was bullied but here, I feel safe and have friends."
Hearing that makes us feel so happy and proud of what we do.
I also managed to speak to one young man who told me his favourite bee was to be safe “because Miss, that’s really important to be safe isn’t it?”
Yes Mason, it really is.
After the bees, we saw our year 8 cyclists – having some sensory reward time with the bikes at the back of school.
Mr Jenkins and Miss Wilson were fresh back from the Panathlon championships – in which school came FIRST place!
Well done to everyone who competed.
We really are so proud.
Next up came a food tech session with Mrs Lenge and Mr Gardner. We watched a clip about how rice is grown. The year 7 group (7DMB) answered some brilliant questions including what their favourite kind of rice was. Our visitor Martin informed me that yellow was his favourite.
The afternoon finished with an observation of the Autism Base who were enjoying a sensory break in the sun with scooters and balls. We loved watching the interaction of the group with the staff.
All in all, a brilliant afternoon and it really made me proud to be able to celebrate the work of the students and staff here at Roman Road.
So, that’s if for our first week.
I'm really looking forward to this term and seeing our children excel at everything they do.
Let’s hope the sun shines.
Stay safe
