Student Council
(Pathways)
The Student Council at New Bridge Pathways is a democratic council, each form class elects a representative, ensuring all pupils are represented equitably. Elections take place in the Autumn term each academic year with classes agreeing amongst themselves who will best represent them.
Student Council is led by a President and a vice president, members of the council put themselves forward for these roles and are then asked to create a video or speech identifying why they would make a great leader. All pupils participate in the election which is done by secret ballot; this helps to reinforce their understanding of the democratic process and can be related to other elections taking place.
The Student Council meets every week to discuss matters arising, the pupils invite key people to their meetings termly to address important issues, these include SLT, wider leadership, governors, and external professionals. Council members plan and run a variety of whole school events and take responsibility for communicating and collating information, acting as a vital bridge between the pupil body and the school leadership.
The Student Council plays a pivotal role in being an active voice of the students and influencing decisions at Pathways, they are consulted on all aspects of school development and play an integral role in the ongoing development of our site, our curriculum and our pastoral system.
We would encourage any pupil joining us here at Pathways to consider being part of our amazing and passionate Student Council team.
